Ah, the good old strawberry banana smoothie. This may be one of the most popular smoothies out there. And rightly so! There’s just something about the mix of the flavours that makes this taste so good and feel so healthy.

It’s also really hard to mess up a banana strawberry smoothie. If you prefer strawberries, add more of them. If you prefer bananas, add more of them. It’s really, really simple.

This is an easy strawberry banana smoothie. You can see from the ingredients that not much effort is required! Heck, there are only 4 ingredients!

The great thing about this smoothie is that you can change things up to suit your preferences. If you like strawberries a lot, add more strawberries. If you like banana a lot, add more banana. It’s very difficult to overwhelm the other flavour, and is easy to bring back some flavour from the other fruit if you need to.

It’s also versatile on the yogurt front. You can use plain yogurt, coconut yogurt, soya yogurt, etc. None of them will make this taste bad, which is great if you are trying to stick to a particular diet.

So trust me when I say this is an easy strawberry banana smoothie recipe!

Given that this strawberry and banana shake is mostly fruit, it’s packed full of nutrients that are good for you. We all know the benefits of eating more fruit, and this shake is a great way to get in your 5 a day, and in a way that tastes great and is enjoyable!

What’s more, as this is a strawberry banana smoothie with yogurt, you can use a yogurt that has cultures in it to help with any digestive issues you may have.

Sometimes people make the mistake of making a strawberry and banana smoothie just with water, and, let me tell you, that does not work. Because strawberries already have quite a high water content, these smoothies tend to become quite watery. And because banana goes mushy when blended, it can make things a bit gross when combined with water!

The yogurt in this recipe helps to keep the ingredients together, whilst also pulling out their best flavours. So crack on using yogurt in this strawberry banana smoothie!

For those that want a strawberry banana chocolate smoothie, it covers you too!

Oh yes! You have to get a little treat in there! The chocolate chips in this recipe add that little bit of fun and a new taste and texture to the equation! When you drink the smoothie, you’ll get fun bits of chocolate that just make it that much more delightful!

I like to use milk chocolate chips, as I think they work best, but dark chocolate chips also work really well with strawberries and bananas.

If this is the best strawberry banana smoothie, can I swap things out?

As I mentioned before, you can certainly add more strawberries or more banana, to your taste preference. You can also use frozen or fresh bananas or strawberries. Neither of those changes will have a huge impact.

You can also swap the yogurt type, between normal dairy yogurt, coconut yogurt, soya yogurt, and so on. I have not yet found a yogurt that does not work with this smoothie.

However, I would not ignore the yogurt. As mentioned above, if you just use water, you will likely find the smoothie flavour to be underwhelming, and the texture to be quite runny.

Ingredients you will need

  • Banana
  • Frozen strawberries (you can use fresh ones, but the frozen ones make it colder)
  • Yogurt of your choice
  • Chocolate chips

Steps

First things first, prepare your ingredients for the strawberry banana smoothie.

If you are using frozen strawberries, I recommend blending them first in to a kind of crushed ice, otherwise they may not blend as well in to your final strawberry banana chocolate smoothie.

Then add the banana.

Ingredients

  • Banana - 100g / 3.53oz / 1 medium banana
  • Strawberries (frozen or fresh) - 80g / 2.82oz / 1/2 cup
  • Low fat yogurt - 100g / 3.53oz / 2/5 cup
  • Chocolate chips (I used milk chocolate in this recipe) - 10g / 0.35oz / 1/16 cup
  • Ice if you use fresh strawberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using frozen strawberries, blend them in to a crushed ice form.
  2. Add the yogurt to the blender first, otherwise the fruit may not blend easily.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients.
  4. Blend.

Notes

If you use fresh strawberries, you may want to add some ice to keep the final recipe cool.
