All about this almond butter and berry protein shake weight gain smoothie

This is a blackberry weight gain smoothie with an AMAZING flavor!

Okay. I didn’t discover almond butter until I started having smoothies – especially Keto smoothies designed for weight gain or simple protein smoothies.

And MAN do I regret not having almond butter sooner!

Because almond butter tastes AMAZING.

And it goes SO well with berries and chocolate.

(This Almond butter chocolate raspberry Philadelphia smoothie is UNDOUBTEDLY one of the best smoothies I have ever had!)

The depth you get from the berries combined with the chocolate pairs so well with the almond butter flavor.

On top of this, this smoothie requires no sugar or sugar substitutes to give it a sweet flavor that is often needed for smoothies.

It’s a berry protein smoothie that’s versatile

If you aren’t a fan of blackberries, or you have other berries on hand, then this blackberry smoothie recipe can be adjusted to suit other dark berries – raspberries or strawberries will be the best as they have the next deepest flavors.

Further, if you want less oats because you are restricting carbohydrates, or want to increase your fat intake by having more almond butter, you can tweak the amounts without causing too much of a difference to the flavor.

The one thing I would say is you must be sure to have a good-tasting chocolate protein powder.

Not all chocolate protein powders are created equal!

I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey, as I like the double dark chocolate flavor, but it may take you some time to find one that you like.

Things to look out for and swaps

You should blend the oats in to a fine powder first, so that they mix well in to the final weight gain smoothie.

If you don’t, you may be left with random, floating oats, which aren’t particularly pleasant!

The same with the blackberries.

If you are using frozen blackberries, blend them after the oats so that they mix well.

This is a blackberry smoothie, after all! Not a smoothie with blackberry clumps!

As above, be sure to choose a chocolate protein powder that tastes good and that fits in with your dietary requirements (for example, a Paleo-friendly or Vegan-friendly protein powder).
